What the Heck are Short Rows?

Description: What exactly are short rows? How are they worked, and why are they used in knitting? In this two-hour workshop with master knitter Mary Brandau, you’ll discover how short rows are used to improve fit, create curves, and more. You’ll practice both the “wrap and turn” and German short row methods, and you’ll learn how to substitute one type for another. Other methods will be reviewed as time permits.

Prerequisites: Participants should be comfortable with the knitting basics: casting on, the knit and purl stitches, and binding off.

Homework: CO 30 sts. Knit 5 rows of stockinette (*knit one row, purl one row, repeat from *). Do not bind off.

Min/max number of participants: 4/10

Materials to bring along:

• One skein of light-colored worsted weight wool yarn, purchased from Spun (we suggest )
• Size US7 or US8 needles ( or )
• Knitted swatch (see homework, above)
